No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is trained in a gi (the kimono-style uniform), which allows grips on the clothing for control and submissions. No-gi BJJ is practiced in athletic shorts and a rashguard instead.

A typical No-Gi BJJ class at PCAA include drilling of techniques and fundamentals as well as sparring ("rolling").  Practitioners gain an understanding of competition rules, legal techniques and how to score points.

No-Gi BJJ is highly practical for real-world self-defense because it doesn’t rely on clothing grips. Instead, students learn to control an opponent using body holds like clinches and leverage, which work no matter what someone is wearing. Training in no-gi prepares you for fast, unpredictable situations and teaches you how to escape, restrain, or neutralize a threat safely and effectively.
